I lost my laptop during my trip to the Philippines a couple of weeks ago. I was really mad when it happened since my laptop contained some of my most important files. My laptop also contained all my pictures from all of my trips abroad. It was a shock to my system, to say the least, when I got laid off from my job after being here for eight years. I was so sure that the “downsizing” or reorganization of the company wouldn’t reach people who had been here as long as I have. Then those jerks at corporate sold or “merged” the place right out from under us. The new owners brought in their people to fill all the spots, and drove almost all of us out. Well, there’s nothing I can do about it other than start trying to look for a new job. In the meantime, I really need to find out about California unemployment benefits. We did get severance pay, which is great, but I don’t have a clue how to file for California unemployment benefits, or when they would start, or even how much they would be.
